Training of young talent

Thousands of young people full of talent arrive in Bogota daily with their bags full of dreams. Living in the capital is not always a voluntary choice, and leaving behind the land that you love can cost more than ever imagined. However, the cold streets of this city have been witnesses of the great achievements obtained by those people who have made determination and inner strength the engine to pursue their passions.
“Employment for Reconciliation allowed me to be clear about my life project and to establish goals and objectives”, affirms Jose Emir.
This is what José Emir Pájaro did, a young man from Santa Cruz de Lorica in Córdoba, in the heart of the Colombian Caribbean region, who at the age of 18, managed to fulfil his dream in Bogotá of studying what he had always wanted and working in a one of the best companies in the city, thanks to their commitment, determination and participation in the “Employment for Reconciliation” program.

José Emir arrived in Bogotá with his family in 2007, fleeing the violence that plagued his municipality. In the company of his mother, his stepfather and his brother, he avoided the difficulties of forced displacement to get ahead. It was the support and example of his family that motivated him to continue his training after graduating from the district college where he studied since he arrived in the capital.

The anxiety over his future after finishing school lasted only a few days, because his best friend told him about the “Employment for Reconciliation” program, he knew it was a big opportunity.

Without a doubt he approached the “Strategic People” training centre, and with all the care he carried out the process to enter he passed the tests, presented the interviews, and once he met the requirements, he could feel how he was getting closer to fulfilling his dream. He managed to be selected, he entered to study a technical program to be a Kitchen Assistant, he was clear about his passion, and nothing stopped him, now he was already part of the gastronomic world. José Emir achieved his goal!

He openly describes himself as an enterprising, tolerant, empathetic and very caring person, recognizing that it is these characteristics that have allowed him to reach this point. He also accepts that some moments along the process were not so easy, and that without his family and his teachers, he surely would not have been able to overcome the obstacles that were presented to him, both academic and personal.

He is clear what his next steps are to take his professional career to the next level, which is why he has decided to go to university. He is currently linked to WOK, one of the most important Asian restaurants in the city, which is part of the Gastronomy cluster of the Bogotá Chamber of Commerce. There he has put into practice everything he learned in class and enjoying cooking every day confirms his great passion for the culinary world.
